left out, 2013

left out is a photographic survey of land commons in New Orleansobserved and mapped between 2008 - 2013. This project created a record of the transient rental economy that boomed after the cities levee system tragically failed in 2008. Prototypes of objects left curbside in transitioning neighborhoods were created in collaboration with Ideazoo in Lafayette, LA from ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic. Mimicking the process of how objects are produced and brought to market, these 3-D images retroactively bring the objects from grave to cradle and offer an unoffical and incomplete marker of the invisible loss of community.
